Things to do: Benefit for film AKA Blondie
Friday, May 22 at Eyedrum

Hit up Eyedrum this Friday, May 22, to support AKA Blondie, a documentary about the southeast’s most famous stripper. The film offers a rare and intimate view into the life, career, personality and passions of Anita Rae Strange, also known as Blondie. Enigmatic and engaging as she is, until now, what the public knows about Blondie has always been part mystique and part mystery. AKA Blondie delves into the truth, the rumors, and the history behind Atlanta’s the exotic dancer, poet and icon. Half Pint Productions, headed by local filmmaker Jon Watts, is producing the film.

Friday's benefit show costs $10, and all proceeds go to the production of the film. Local MC Rotknee will host the event, and Dead Rabbits, Predator and the Luchagors are playing. Of course Blondie will be on hand, and she’ll read some poetry. There will be a raffle and a limited edition t-shirt commemorating the film.

Sponsors for the event include Pine Magazine, Picaflor Studio, Half Pint Productions, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Whynatte, AfterParty, King Screen, Creative Loafing and Caroline Smith Photography. It starts at 8.

We recently chatted with Robbie Horlick, the film's supervisor who is also the frontperson for the Atlanta-based Cassavetes. Take a listen here, and see you at the show Friday!
