Jeffrey Butzer's new CD - "The Garden of Scissors" - expands upon his debut release, "She Traded Her Leg" and is intensely cohesive with its themes and variations building upon one another. Intermittent climaxes and releases pull the listener in again and again, and this quickly becomes an album you'll keep close to your stereo.
Composed as a soundtrack, the songs are a well-executed blend of organs, accordions, glockenspiels, pianos and banjos, with each instrument staking their own claim of the song without ever competing for the floor. Vocals occasionally appear from singer Sanni Baumgartner, the German-born frontwoman of Dancer vs. Politician.
"The Garden of Scissors" was recently released by the Hong Kong-based Lona Records, and is available online. Hear the title track here, and "Theme for a Trailer" here.
