Have a secret fetish for gay porn you're keeping from your straight boyfriend? Or, as a recent study suggests, you might just be keeping it from yourself. A psychology professor at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, noted scientist Meredith Chivers has spent a bit of her time monitoring the question so many have tried endlessly to discover -- what women want. Using science and volunteers, Chivers set about the daunting task of discovering true desire.
The volunteers' genitals were connected to what is called a plethysmographs. While men were fitted with a little tool that is placed on the penis and monitors its engorgement. A small probe was placed inside the vagina, and bounced light off the vaginal walls to gauge genital blood flow, which is connected to lubrication. According to the New York Times, an engorgement of blood spurs a lubricating process called vaginal transudation: the seeping of moisture through the walls. Both men and women also rated their arousal rates on a keypad, noting what they liked and what they didn't.
But, as study results have suggested, many women might not really know what it is they do like. For example, many reported they weren't that into girl on girl action, though their vaginas told a different story. Most women claimed they weren't at all interested in gay porn, yet their bodies were physically turned on. And heterosexual sex? Most women claimed they liked watching it, though those claims weren't in line with their body's response.
Lesbians, though, meant it when they said girl on girl got them off -- those were among the few times mind and body connected.
