Deleted Scenes and their "Birdseed Shirt"
The D.C.-based band plays the Pine Magazine/Star Bar showcase 08 January

Deleted Scene's new release "Birdseed Shirt" is a catchy and reflective album that is as much celebratory as it is mournful. In its more somber moments, such as in the song 'Fake IDs,' Deleted Scenes is a bit like Band of Horses, though other songs, the ones with more uplifting segments, lend more towards comparisons to Arcade Fire and Animal Collective.

Vocalist Dan Scheurman lets his belting vibrato ring out, showcasing the ease with with he can grab those tricky high notes, and let them fly. From a lyrical standpoint, Scheuerman reminds me of Snowden's Jordan Jeffares in his conversational delivery, simultaneously sarcastic though laced with underlying hints of angst and caution, as can be heard on 'Get Your Shit Together for the Holidays'.

"Birdseed Shirt" is released by What Delicate Recordings, and is available online and in some stores. You can hear a handful of song's on the band's myspace page.

Dan reminds me of David Byrne; we've seen him a few times now and he never is a disappointment. Nice review and great job PINE on booking Deleted Scenes.
