Did Jeffrey Dahmer Kill Adam Walsh?
Jeffrey Dahmer killed Adam Walsh? That's what one writer says. After examining thousands of pages of investigation notes, Arthur Jay Harris has written a book on the convicted canibal and in it he proposes what some authorities have believed for some time -- that Dahmer, while living in Florida, abducted the boy from a local Sears in July 1981, killing him. Two witnesses place Dahmer at the scene that day, and one man claims to have seen him holding a struggling small boy, and putting him in a blue van that fits the description of the vans available through Dahmer's job.
Dahmer, who has admitted to killing 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991, has always denied having a role in Walsh's abduction, saying he didn't prefer boys that young.
Adam Walsh, 6, was at the Sears with his mother when, after the two were separated, he was abducted. Two weeks later, authorities found his head in a drainage canal, though they never recovered his body.
An avid canibal, Dahmer was known for his dismemberment of victims as well as the subsequent digestion of their bodies. At the time of his arrested in July 1991 (almost exactly ten years to the day that Adam Walsh disappeared), Dahmer was murdering a person each week in Milwaukee. It wasn't until Tracy Edwards escaped from his apartment that he was finally caught. Deemed sane by a jury, Dahmer was convicted for 15 of the 17 confessed murders, sentenced to 937 years in prison. Another inmate beat Dahmer to death in November 1994.
In 1983, one of the most terrifying made-for-TV movies about the murder was released, scaring children everywhere (including one Pine staffer, who was six when the movie hit the small screen) into never wanting to go to a Sears or even be left alone in the living room during a commercial break when other family members took bathroom breaks. Another movie came out in 1986.
Walsh's father, businessman John Walsh, became a spokesperson for the plight of abducted children, having formed the Adam Walsh Child Resource Center, which eventually became the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, of which the Walsh's helped form in 1984. He then went on to host "America's Most Wanted," which he still does. He was largely responsible for the child advocacy bill President George W. Bush recently signed into law, which is called the "The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act."

What is the point of this? Dahmer is dead.. he can\'t be punished for the crime even if he did do it. Why open these wounds?

It might seem pointless but maybe it would ease Adam Walsh's family to know that his murderer isn't still running free.

I know everyone involved is dead but this child came to stand for every missing child, and I believe that it would be symbolic to the nation - and our generation, the one that grew up with our parent's often things thinking of this - to have it concluded. I also think it'd be good for his parents. What a terrible thing to not know who beheaded your child. It's not like he just went missing. He went missing, and then was brutally murdered.

My son, Michael at the age of 4 years old and I, watched the movie Adam by John Walsh. The next week someone tried to kidnap my son by trying to coax him into his car. Because my son had watched that movie, he screamed and ran and dropped his bike while others came out to find out what was wrong. A neighbor girl was his witness to this. I thank everyone for this movie for it helped prepare my son and the neighborhood for the reality of what some people are capable of doing to others.
If it had been my son instead of John Walsh\'s son, Adam, I would want closure on who is responsible and why they did it and if they are still alive, punishment for the terrible attrocity done to a defensive innocent child.

I was a child, myself, when Adam Walsh disappeared. It is still fresh in my mind . . . the events that took place, the news coverage, his parents on every possible news outlet. I remember vividly the news of his head being found. I remember the "deathbed" confession. But did Otis Poole really give the family any peace? There is still no proof that he did it. I also followed the Dahmer case, and still watch the documentaries about him and his horrific crimes. This is the most perplexing part. All circumstantial evidence could very well point to Dahmer, but as he even said, he didn't go for boys that young. There was never any real proof that he did it as well as Poole. Honestly, I think the real killer is still out there. I think if we had the man power, we could look into other cases in Florida and may very well be able to find the real killer. Whether it be Dahmer or Poole or someone that we never imagined. It's all in looking at the M.O's of previous child abductions. I'm sure law enforcement did what they could. A few child abductions come to mind that they could look at. I just think that after 25 plus years it's time to put this family at some true peace and quit all the speculation of who could have. We've got the technology now to do things we never imagined in 1981. Damn it, let's put some of that to use.

I think some of you people who left remarks are MISSING THE POINT! Like Evan's remark about, Why open these wounds because Dahmer is dead and yada, yada, yada! Well the REASON is because any unsolved crimes like MURDER leave many wounds that can stay open for a very long time. Ask anyone who was a family member of BTK's murders! It took a long time to catch BTK/Dennis Rader but even after all the years past. The victims family still felt better knowing WHO the killer was. This would even go for the family of the Zodiac killers victims too. Though the Zodiac killer is more than likely DEAD now. The victims family an friends would STILL like to know who the Zodiac really was. The same thing with Adam Walsh, this child's killer needs to be found alive or DEAD. Either way his family will know the truth at least. I know I still want to know who killed my boyfriend when I was in High school. Nobody knows and I still wonder to this day! I'm 40 years old now and YES I still want to know. Because I cared about him and want some kind of justice for him. Also his family are STILL looking into the death of their son. So you see? Your remarks posted show a lack of respect for the family and friends of their murdered loved ones. Okay bud?

I watched a news program a few weeks ago about Jeffrey Dahmer and Adam Walsh. What REALLY bothers me is that one WITNESS who actually SAW a man holding a child UP BY HIS ARM, AND FORCING HIM INTO THE VAN!! All the while, this 'witness' claims the boy was screaming, 'I'm NOT GOING!!' That 'witness' is a piece of $hit for NOT DOING ANYTHING! If he seemed so concerned about the event, WHY DIDN'T HE DO ANYTHING? He COULD HAVE SAVED THE BOYS LIFE! There is NOTHING anyone here can say to try to make me think OTHERWISE - THAT MAN WAS A FREAKING COWARD! HE DID NOTHING! SHAME ON HIM! Too bad someone with COMMON SENSE wasn't there to witness the abduction, his life could have been SAVED.
